Job Summary:
The Environmental Chemist will be responsible for conducting scientific research and analysis to assess and monitor environmental samples, with a focus on chemical pollutants. The role requires expertise in environmental chemistry and the ability to apply advanced techniques to analyze samples collected from air, water, soil, and related media. The Environmental Chemist will work closely with cross-functional teams to provide accurate data and scientific insights to support environmental protection and remediation efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct laboratory and field-based analysis of environmental samples to identify and quantify chemical pollutants, including heavy metals, organic compounds, and other contaminants.
- Develop and validate analytical methods and techniques to ensure accuracy and precision in sample analysis.
- Operate and maintain sophisticated laboratory equipment and instruments, such as gas chromatographs, mass spectrometers, and atomic absorption spectrometers.
- Prepare and analyze samples using various extraction and separation techniques, including liquid-liquid extraction, solid-phase microextraction, and solid-phase extraction.
- Perform data analysis and interpretation, including statistical analysis and quality control procedures, to generate reliable and accurate results.
- Prepare technical reports, research papers, and presentations to communicate findings to internal stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and the scientific community.
- Stay abreast of emerging trends, methodologies, and regulations in environmental chemistry to ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including environmental scientists, engineers, and regulatory experts, to develop effective strategies for environmental monitoring and remediation.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance on environmental chemistry-related matters to internal and external stakeholders.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, or a related field. A Master's or Ph.D. degree in Environmental Chemistry is preferred.
- Proven experience in environmental chemistry, particularly in the analysis of chemical pollutants in various environmental matrices.
- Proficiency in using advanced laboratory instruments and techniques, such as gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, and atomic absorption spectrometry.
- Strong knowledge of analytical chemistry principles and practices, including sample preparation, extraction techniques, and data analysis.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations, guidelines, and standards related to chemical pollutants.
- Proficient in using statistical software and data analysis tools for quality control and assurance.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present complex scientific concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
